I had the pleasure of meeting with the World Bank Liberia Country Manager Georgia Wallen (Left) and Ms. Nazaneen Ismail Ali, World Bank’s Practice Manager for Procurement in the West Africa Region (Right) and her team earlier this morning to discuss the Bank’s procurement process and transitioning to the use of the Government of Liberia procurement systems. We discussed support for the Public Accounts and Audits Committee and all the integrity institutions (PPCC, GAC, IAA, LACC, and FIA) to build their capacities related to ethics, accountability, and standards in public procurement, the entry point for most rent-seeking or corruption behaviors in public financial management. Specifically, we discussed supporting the PPCC to adopt e-procurement with built-in triggers to alert for inconsistencies to prevent corruption in the procurement processes.
